At age 16, Summer is a 8 time National Champion and holds 6 National records. It all began when she was 11 years old and attended a summer camp at the local velodrome in Katy, Texas. The following year she attended her first Jr. Track Nationals in Frisco, Texas, where she earned her first National title and won all of the events. She ventured out onto the road in 2012, but still spent majority of her time at the track. In 2013, she entered the local crit scene with the women and found a new love! And from then on, she continued to race mostly road and track! Summer loves being a part of Twenty16! She feels that the mentors on the team and the opportunities that are given, have been key to her success!

What inspired you to start bike racing?
I was only 12 and it just looked fun. I didn’t realize what it would lead to at the time.
Who is an inspiration to you in your life, both on and off the bike?
There are so many people who inspire me that I can’t choose just one; my parents, coach, friends, family and other elite or para-cyclists. Basically, anyone who strives to their best inspires me to be a better person and racer.
Favorite subject in school...?
My favorite subject in school would be sign language.
Favorite meal when training?
Hmmm……well I feel like I am always training, so my favorite meal is when my dad grills steaks and sweet potatoes! My post ride favorite is a Bonzai Bowl (It’s a Cali thing)!
The best thing about racing bikes?
Traveling is the best thing about cycling! A nice set of legs is also a good perk ;) Oh did I mention, cute boys? It’s always bikes before boys though ☺
Favorite place you’ve raced your bike and why?
Best place I’ve ever raced my bike is in Sacramento for the Tour of California. It was BEAUTIFUL and such an amazing experience!
Favorite cross training or off season activity?
Bikram Yoga!! Or yoga in general! Love love love it!!

Learn how to manage your time wisely.

I’m addicted to eating avocado’s.

Explain why it is important for an athlete to pursue education by going on to college after high school.
It’s important for an athlete to pursue an education after high school so she has something to fall back on after cycling or if something happens that leaves her unable to cycle.

I am very thankful for the support of Ridebiker Alliance. It’s awesome having them on board Twenty16 to support and believe in women’s cycling.
